Lamichhanem, who was accused of raping a young woman in 2022, is now likely to be included in Nepal's T20 World Cup squad
The three defendants, comprising a Cameroonian and two Nigerians, have been all charged with possession of 117,800 counterfeit dollars for circulation when their case was heard by the Court of First Instance.
According to prosecution records, the three men were arrested in June as they tried to con an undercover police officer of Dh75,000 and fool him by saying that they were willing to trade the cash for $5 million which they claimed to be authentic.
To back up their claims they showed the undercover officer a suitcase loaded with $100 bills of which they drew one $100 authentic bill arbitrarily.
A police officer said the case dated back to June when they were tipped off about the defendants who were selling fake dollars. An undercover officer met the accused in Rafaa and one of them was holding a suitcase. He randomly took out a $ 100 note, which was authentic.
At that moment the undercover officer signalled to the policemen who were watching from a distance and the Africans were arrested.
The three admitted they were planning to defraud the officer. One of the Nigerians admitted he was looking out to make sure there were no cops around.
The criminal evidence report showed that the seized counterfeit dollars were fake.
