The suspect, a Syrian national identified as Assad. H.Y., entered a number of shops and outlets by breaking through the shop doors and stole the contents from safe, the police said.

A top officer at the Criminal Investigation Department said they received a large number of complaints about thefts in Al Garb and Sharjah Industrial Area police stations. The victims told the police that when they tried to enter their business premises in the morning, they came to realise that the doors had been broken and inside, found their safe destroyed, with its contents missing.

Officers on the crime scenes collected fingerprints and pieces of evidence and immediately launched an intensified investigation. During the search and investigation, police suspected a Syrian man based on the description provided by the victims and compatibility of the fingerprints. After locating the suspect’s place of residence, police raided his apartment and seized items including watches, electronics as well as sharp weapons, which he used for protection during his crime spree.
