On Tuesday, the court heard how the 37-year-old Briton, filed the lawsuit against the Syrian national, claiming damages following the threats – which he says left him so worried, he sent his wife and children back to the UK.

The 23-year-old student, identified as Z.H., stood in the dock in the Court of First Instance on a threat charge. According to the prosecution records, the student threatened to kill the man with whom he had a business deal with, if he continued asking for his business dues.

During the investigation, the complainant said he met the accused when he rented a car from his rental office in Hor-al-Anz in Deira. Z.H. told him that he was in the real estate business and that his father owned firms and villas in Abu Dhabi. Z.H. offered the complainant a partnership in purchasing diesel, informing him that they could resell it at a higher price, claiming that his father’s partner could import the fuel. After being denied of his share of the profits by Z.H. and a Pakistani accomplice, the Briton filed a complaint at Sharjah Public
Prosecution.

About ten days after filing the complaint, the man received an SMS text which read: “If Z.H. is arrested or something happens to him, we know where you live and where your sons study. Losing your money is better than losing yourself and your family. You’d better keep your mouth shut”.

He later found out that Z.H. had been sentenced to six months in jail followed by deportation, after losing his appeal.

The Briton then filed the civil case and complaint about the threat at Al Muraqqabat police station. The text message was retrieved from the complainant’s phone and produced as part of criminal evidence.
