According to a police official, the owner of the plot in Al Sajja was shocked to find that his telephone number displayed on a for-rent board placed on the land was replaced by the contact number of another person. He also found two cars parked on the land.
The land owner reported to the police that he suspected someone was illegally renting out his land. He also gave the numbers of the cars parked at the plot to the police. The police found out that the cars belonged to a Pakistani.
The Pakistani confirmed that he had rented the land from W.Z., a 30-year-old Sudanese national, who claimed that he had the authorisation to rent the land and that he had rented it to the Pakistani for Dh27,000.
The Pakistani said that he got to know W.Z. through Z.A., a 40-year-old Indian broker, who knew that he was looking for a land on lease.
An investigation team was formed by the police and the two suspects, the Sudanese and the Indian, were arrested. Both confessed to the crime.
The police official said that Z. A., the first to be arrested, had entered the country on a visit visa and was illegally staying in the country after its expiry. He told the police that he worked as a broker and after knowing the Pakistani national is looking for a land on lease, he found this particular piece with the number of W. Z. on the signboard. He contacted W. Z. and told him that he has a client willing to rent the land.
The official said that the land was illegally rented to the Pakistani who gave commission to Z.A. for finding the land. The two suspects are currently detained and will be referred to the Public Prosecution.
