Mohammed Hamed, Spokesperson of the Dubai Civil Defence, said that the operations room of the Dubai Civil Defence received information on Friday morning about a fire that broke out in the mezzanine floor of a building, located behind a restaurant in Al Rafaa in Bur Dubai.
Firefighters from the Karama Civil Defence Station put out the fire and prevented it from spreading to the rest of the building after evacuating it. However, the fire had caused minor damage to two neighboring buildings, he said. The firefighters found the body of the victim, who was charred to death. Two employees of the restaurant, who were living with the victim in the same flat, were on duty and thus escaped death.
Hamedsaid that forensic experts of the Dubai Police have examined the scene and are still investigating the cause of the fire. The body of the victim was referred to the General Department of Forensic Medicine of the Dubai Police.—news@khaleejtimes.com
