Residents involved in lawsuits in Ras Al Khaimah may now appeal the verdicts of lower courts online, as the Court of Cassation here implements its new electronic service.
The move follows an agreement between the RAK Courts and the RAK eGovernment Authority.
"The new service, mainly targeting lawyers here, is part of RAK Courts' tireless efforts to adopt modern technology and commit to digital transformation," said Ahmed Al Khatri, chairman, RAK Courts.
Ahmed Al Sayyah, director-general of the RAK eGovernment Authority, said: "Such online appeals before the RAK Court of Cassation save the time and effort of the courts' strategic partners, making them happier."
Speaking to Khaleej Times, Salam Pappinissery, a lawyer of Ali Ibrahim Advocates, said the initiative does make procedures a lot easier for all the users of court services.
Pappinissery said he is hoping the electronic system will also be implemented across other branches of RAK courts.
"To make these services accessible online will surely raise the bar here in Ras Al Khaimah and make its courts' system more competitive," he said.
