Khalid Ismail Hamad Al Hosani, who had flown to Bangalore on September 30 for treatment for epilepsy and neurological complications, had disappeared last Friday from the reception of the serviced apartment in which he had stayed with his father and uncle.

He was found in the Home of Hope, a charity shelter for the sick and destitute located some 10km away from the apartment. However, it emerged later on Thursday that personnel of the Karnataka state police, who had released the photo of Al Hosani to the media and circulated in the nearby locality, had rescued him from the street and left him at the shelter.

T. Raja, director of Home of Hope, said the ill youngster was brought to the shelter by policemen from the same police station that had registered a missing case based on the complaint by his father. “It was the police from Pulikeshi Nagar who brought him here on Friday evening. They said he was found in the street. After the police came with his father and took him today only I got to know that his father had registered the complaint with the same police station,” he said.

Raja said he was not surprised to know that such a “gross negligence” has been committed by the cops.

He said Al Hosani was exhausted and had wounds on his head and shoulder when he was taken to the shelter. “He had seizures and he had lost his way. He spoke Arabic and a few words in English. We just understood that he is from Dubai. But, we took care of him and we also gave him medicines for fits,” he said. “It’s sad that the boy had to be here when his father was searching for him everywhere.”

Al Hosani’s uncle said the teen had lost his way after he left the apartment and had ended up in a railway station. He did not know which police had taken him to the shelter. Al Hosani was later taken to a hospital for a complete medical checkup and treatment.
