A 24-year-old man, who allegedly molested a 9-year-old girl while she was at a toy shop in a mall, stood trial on Wednesday in the Court of First Instance.
The Indian resident denied the molestation charge in court.
The incident was reported on October 20, 2017.
The Jordanian girl, 9, said she was with her parents at a toy shop when that man approached her. He told her to walk with him as he would teach her some yoga.
He stood behind her and held her waist, telling her to raise her hands so as to reach her shoulders. He then tried to make her touch him. But she ran to her parents and told them instantly about him.
The girl's 33-year-old mother, a housewife, said she was with her husband at the shop while her daughter was checking the toys. "Shortly later, our girl came to us frightened saying that a man in the shop told her he would teach her yoga. She said he stood behind her and tried to make her touch him. He grabbed her by her waist and told her to raise her hands up to her shoulders. We called the police."
In the crime lab report, a CCTV footage showed the defendant pressed his body against the girl's four times in the shop.
The trial will continue on January 21.
