The Ras Al Khaimah Criminal Court has sentenced a young Arab man to six months in prison for trying to steal a scrap car.
Court records showed that the owner of the scrap car spotted the young man towing away his vehicle, which he had parked in front of his house.
The shocked owner asked the man why and where he was taking the car. The defendant told him that his sponsor had bought it, and showed him the purchase contract, which appeared to be bogus.
The car owner then called the RAK Police, which reached the spot located in Al Rams area.
The young man was referred to the public prosecution on charges of attempted car theft and forgery.
The suspect told the RAK public prosecution that he was not trying to steal the car. "My sponsor, who has a workshop in the industrial area, had misled me," he said, adding: "He gave me a purchase contract, and claimed that he had bought the car. It was he who told me to tow away the car in a recovery vehicle."
However, the workshop owner denied that he had asked the man to tow away any car.
