An illegal resident was jailed for impersonation and luring a woman into giving him Dh700,000 on promises to marry her.
The Arab national will serve 18 months in jail, pay a Dh500,000 fine, and be deported for his crime, as per Emarat Al Youm report.
He used a fake name and met the victim on Twitter, claiming he was a rich Emirati. Their relationship developed and he demanded she send him photos and money while promising to marry her.
When she discovered that he was lying to her, she cut him off. He countered by blackmailing her with the nudes which she had sent, threatening to publish them on social media if she stopped sending him money.
The total amount she paid reached Dh700,000 before she decided to inform the police.
She hadn't acted before because she was afraid her family might find out.
