Another 18 people have been also referred to the legal authorities for tampering with number plates.
Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafin, Director of the General Department of Traffic of the Dubai Police, said the police caught an Emirati youth who put the number plate behind the car in an L-shape to avoid being caught by cameras. He said the youth committed the violation intentionally and set up his number plate so that the radar could only record the code and two other digits.
Al Zafin said that the police called the driver, who worked in Abu Dhabi.
The driver said that he did not put the number plate intentionally but the police found that he had traffic fines of Dh19,000.
He paid the fine and was referred to a police station to be charged with fraud and cheating the police.
Al Zafin explained that the traffic police had recorded 19 radar violations regarding number plate tampering.
