Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation, said that the Operations Room of the Dubai Police received information that somebody was robbed in Al Nakheel area in Dubai. A police patrol rushed to the area and the two suspects were arrested.

A 39-year-old Ghana national told the police that he went to the market to buy spare parts around 12 noon when the first suspect came on his way and kicked him on leg. The man then robbed Dh17,410 from him, the victim said. Two Indian witnesses told the police that they saw the incident and chased the suspect and caught him with the assistance of other passersby. A compatriot accomplice of the suspect was also caught.

Al Mansouri said the Anti-Crime Department of the Dubai Police had received a number of complaints about similar incidents. He explained the modus operandi of the crime, saying the thief keeps track of the victim after confirming that they have some sizeable amount of money with them.

At the right place, the thief kicks him on the leg and while the victim falls down, the thief snatches his money and flees the area. He pointed out that these crimes were being committed near markets and popular areas.

In another incident, Col. Ahmed Thani bin Ghalaita, Director of the Anti-Crime Department of the Dubai Police, said that a similar crime was reported by an Indian national at the Naif Police Station. The victim, who deals in spare parts told the police that while walking near a hotel in Naif area, a person grabbed his left shoulder from behind and kicked on his left leg. The man then offered an apology and returned quickly. At the same time, another person who was on his right side, touched him and disappeared. When he checked his pocket, it was found that Dh12,000 was lost.

Bin Ghalaita said the details of the suspects arrested in connection with the first case matched with those described by the Indian. The complainant was called and he identified the suspect.

In another case, the anti-crime officials have arrested an Afghan national, who was chased by public after he allegedly stole cartons containing accessories and electronic equipment worth Dh200,000 in front of a shop in the Naif area. A Pakistani trader said that he left the carton in front of his shop to bring some other stuff and while he was busy talking to an accountant, he saw the suspect fleeing with the carton.

The police patrol arrested the suspect and recovered the stolen goods from him. Bin Ghalaita said that the suspect had been deported earlier for similar crimes and had entered the country illegally.

The police have also arrested another Afghani national U.Z. while trying to escape after allegedly snatching a bag containing money and other valuables from a person in the Naif area.

While the victim was busy shopping the suspect went near him and snatched his bag. The victim, with the help of another person, stopped the suspect and a police patrol arrested him. The police found out that the suspect illegally entered the country after being deported for similar crimes.
