The Sharjah Civil Defence rescued an infant who got trapped in her room in an apartment in Al Madam area for long hours.
An official said the mother locked up the nine-month-old girl while sleeping in her room and left the house. The mother lost the key and failed to open the door following which the baby was left crying for hours.
An official at the Sharjah Civil Defence said that they received a call at 2.15pm on Thursday about the incident. A rescue team rushed to the area and broke the door to rescue the infant who was in good health condition despite being hungry and exhausted due to continuous crying.
The case has been referred to Al Madam Police Station to determine whether the mother should be held for negligence.
An official confirmed that the mother was detained for interrogation. He also said the police would not tolerate negligent parents who expose the lives of their children to danger, he affirmed.
