Three Emirati homemakers stood trial on Sunday accused of assaulting and insulting on-duty anti-narcotics police officers during a villa raid.
The 73-year-old mother, on a wheelchair, and her two daughters, aged 38 and 31, pleaded not guilty to the charges when they appeared in the Court of First Instance.
The incident allegedly took place on November 14, 2015, in Al Barsha.
"We had a warrant to search and arrest a suspect for possession and use of drugs in a villa in Al Barsha. The suspect's sister, 38, opened for us and we told her the reason of our visit was to apprehend the suspect while showing her the prosecution warrant. As soon as she told the other family members the mother came and screamed at me and slapped me," an anti-narcotics police lieutenant said.
"The other sister, 31, then pushed me and tried to stop me from entering. We spotted the suspect trying to sneak out but we stopped and arrested him. His mother and sisters kept shouting and trying to stop us from conducting the search.
"That 38-year-old sister said she would claim we did not have a warrant and that we entered while they were not properly dressed. We called a back-up patrol car and we filed a criminal complaint later at Al Barsha police station."
A 50-year-old policewoman, who was part of the cops that went to that villa on the incident day, said they were verbally abused.
Another police lieutenant and a cop gave similar testimonies during the investigation.
