A 58-year-old Emirati man, who allegedly lost his temper after learning that a compatriot asked his mentally-challenged son to pray at home, stood trial at the Court of First Instance on Sunday on the charge of making criminal threats.
The father is accused of threatening two others of beating them up and breaking their noses. He pleaded not guilty to the charges including threatening to kill the complainant and his friend.
The complainant, a 39-year-old teacher, said that about two days prior to the complaint, another Emirati man asked the 16-year-old boy to pray at home for his own good, outside a mosque in Al Warqa. "The boy was reading and praying in a loud voice. He was distracting other worshippers," the complainant said.
"At 5am on July 13, when I went out of the mosque, the boy and his father came to me. The father asked me about what happened between that man and his son. And why I did not stood by his son's side when the other man grabbed his hand," he recounted.
"As I refused to give him the other man's details and location to prevent any trouble because he looked angry and emotional, the boy's father threatened to beat me up and the other man and bleed us. He also threatened he would have me jailed for 16 years as he is a security officer."
The complainant also said he was threatened by the boy's father that he would kill him. "He said he was a retired man and on a full salary and he would not mind being jailed for ten months. He said he would serve his jail time and then stalk us."
