The police operations room received a call that the driver of the 4WD lost control over the drive wheel after the cruise-control settings malfunctioned while he was travelling along the Al Maliha highway.

According to a police official, a police patrol was immediately dispatched to the vehicle's side to prevent the cause of a serious accident.

The police patrol drove ahead of the 4WD in a bid to keep the path ahead clear and avoid any collisions with other road users.

The motorist was guided to operate the hazard lights to warn motorists from approaching the vehicle, and he was told to place the car into neutral mode and fasten his seat belt. He was then instructed to switch the engine off and then on again, which caused the vehicle to slow down and he was eventually able to bring it to a stop.

Deputy Director of Sharjah Police Brigadier Abdallah Mubarak Al Dukhan said that incidents involving car malfunctions have risen of late and urged all car agencies to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of car electronics.

He urged motorists to take their cars for regular maintenance check-ups to avoid such mishaps from occurring. He also advised them to set the automatic cruise-control at a low speed before fixing it at a high speed on highways, as it could result in a serious accident.
