General Department of Anti-Narcotics Director Major-General Abdul Jalil said the 45-year-old UAE national was arrested on Saturday during the course of ‘Operation Aged But Not Repented’.
Maj-Gen Mahdi said the unemployed man, who was arrested in Jebel Ali, was a professional drug peddler who was considered one of the most dangerous smugglers and dealers in the UAE. He said his “shameful criminal activities” extended from north to south, where he targeted young people. Police inspected his car and found 6.2kg of hashish, 32 grams of heroin, 42 tablets of Tramadol drug and a large amount of keptagon tablets and crystal meth. He admitted to his offences and said he was in touch with a contact living in an Asian country, who provided him with drugs from time to time.
He was referred to the Dubai Public prosecution on the charges of possessing and promoting narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and drug abuse.
Maj-Gen Mahdi applauded the role of each of the anti-drug enforcement officials in Sharjah Police, Abu Dhabi and in Dubai, who contributed to the success of the operation.
He also stressed the importance of cooperation between authorities under the umbrella of the Ministry of Interior to combat drugs and prevent youth from falling into the trap of addiction.
