“Mariam is undergoing surgery for the injuries she sustained. Her condition is still critical,” the head of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Sohar Hospital, told
Khaleej Times.

“She is not responding to the treatment because of profuse bleeding, due to which her organs have also developed some complications,” he added.

“Due to her serious condition, we are not able to airlift her in order to provide better treatment.”

Another injured, Aisha Al Kindi, also sustained severe injuries, including fractures in arms and legs. She was airlifted to Dubai by helicopter on Sunday for urgent surgery, an official at Sohar Hospital said.

The deceased have been identified as Hamdan Al Kindi, 19, Shanaz Al Kindi, 52, Mohammed Al Kindi, 17 and Danah Al Kindi, 3.

The bodies of the deceased had been shifted to Al Fujairah in UAE for burial, an officer at Royal Oman Police said.

The accident occurred when the driver of a Land Cruiser lost control of his vehicle due to slippery road caused by overnight rains, which then skidded off the road and turned turtle.

Three people were killed instantly while the other died on the way to hospital, he said.

They were going to Sohar from Khutmat Melaha.

According to the police, speeding was the reason behind the accident. All involved were from Fujairah in the UAE.
