A brother and sister, both Arabs, stood trial at the Ras Al Khaimah Misdemeanour Court for abusing each other.
The court records showed that the duo had a heated argument after the death of their another brother. They apparently insulted each other using abusive language. The elder brother allegedly even threatened his sister.
The case was moved to the RAK Misdemeanour Court where the brother refused to settle the litigation in an amicable way. "She needs to be taught a lesson," he told the court.
The brother denied threatening or using any offensive word against his sister. However, the sister claimed: "He did (use bad language) and I couldn't reply to him in a similar way using such nasty words."
Chief Judge Fathi Al Qallaa urged the duo thrice to end the litigation amicably, but the brother insisted on not withdrawing the case.
"She didn't show respect to me (as her elder brother) and insulted me," he said.
Another of his sisters tried hard to convince the brother to drop the case, but he didn't relent.
"She is your sister and you can not do this to her," she said.
The chief judge pointed out that "both litigants will be losers".
"From a humane perspective, I tried to end this litigation in a cordial way in line with the spirit of the Year of Tolerance."
Now, the law calls for a judgment and a verdict has to be given in this case, he added.
The court ordered adjournment of the case to a later time to issue its ruling.
