The suspects identified as A.M.A aged 25, who does not have any identification documents, A.K.A aged 20 from Oman, and 26-year-old Emirati S.G.S. An officer said the gang lured pedestrians to secluded spots, attacked and robbed them.
“We received complaints from several people who were beaten up and had their mobile phones stolen, while two of the victims also reported that they were robbed at knifepoint,” said the officer.
“The suspects posed as police and other law-enforcement officers, and the victims failed to ask them to show their identification cards,” he added. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Sharjah Police formed a team and during investigation, it was able to identify one of the suspects. After completing all necessary legal procedures, the team raided the suspect’s house and arrested him.
He confessed that he carried out the assault and robberies with two accomplices, who were also arrested eventually. They admitted that they sold the stolen mobile phones in the black market.
The case has been transferred to the Sharjah Public Prosecution.
The police once again warned the public to request to see the identification documents when someone stops anyone in the middle of the street saying he is from the police so that these types of crimes can be prevented.
