Pakistan cricketers, former World Twenty20 champions, were barred from playing in the lucrative league after the first edition.

“We were disappointed. Pakistan players should have played the IPL. We are missing out on such a big event. Things have become a bit normal between the two countries. We should be allowed to play in the IPL in the future,” Razzaq said.

Razzaq is in Abu Dhabi for the Ministry of Labour six-a-side cricket tournament, which will played on Friday.

Razzaq said that it was a great feeling for the players to come down and play in India during the World Cup and added that it would be great to play each other a lot more. The teams faced each other in the World Cup semifinal in Mohali, which India won.

“It was a great feeling for us to come and play in India. All the players were very excited. Hopefully, we will play against each other a lot more,” he said.

The World Cup semi-final between the arch-rivals has helped ease the tension between the two countries. Analysts called it cricket diplomacy with the Indian and Pakistan Prime Ministers in attendance for the match.

Razzaq went down memory lane and termed his 109 against South Africa in Abu Dhabi as the best knock of his career. Razzaq rescued the team from a near hopeless situation to script a memorable win over South Africa, last November. “It was the best knock of my career,” he said.

About the Ministry of Labour six-a-side cricket tournament, Razzaq said: “I thank the ADCC and the Ministry of Labour who are very keen to promote cricket here. It will be a great opportunity for us to play with these youngsters and correct their mistakes. They will also get to learn a lot by playing with us.”

Razzaq said that the UAE was like a second home and they were glad to promote cricket in the region. “We love to come over here to the UAE. It is like our second home. I’m very excited to be part of such an event. Whenever they need us, we will be ready to come and play. It is a great opportunity for us to promote cricket in this region,” he said.
