UCA scamper to victory

DUBAI - Junaid Khalid hit a match-winning knock of 55 runs to help Unique Cricket Academy (UCA) pull off a narrow one-wicket win over Westminster YTCA in the under-15 match of the Nissan Gulf Cup cricket tournament.

Replying to Westminster YTCA’s modest total of 100 runs, UCA lost regular wickets before reaching the target with one wicket and an over to spare.

One-drop batsman, Junaid kept UCA in the hunt with a timely knock of 55 runs off 45 balls. Junaid struck five boundaries and two sixers during his entertaining stay at the wicket.

After Junaid was clean bowled by Anirudh, UCA were kept on track thanks to Danish, who stayed unbeaten on 11 runs off 15 balls. Anirudh (3 for 6), Shiv (3 for 29) and Liam (2 for 19) were the most successful Westminster bowlers.

Earlier, Westminster invited to bat first, scored 100 for the loss of four wickets. Opener Shiv Mehra top scored with 33 runs off 29 balls, including couple of boundaries. Kamil Khan (11), Faazil Khan (10) and Karthik (12) also contributed to Westminster YTCA’s total.

Brief scores: UCT beat Westminster YTCA by one wicket. Westminster YTCA 100 for 4 wkts in 20 overs (Shiv Mehra 33, Kamil Khan 11, Faazil Khan 10, Karthik 12) lost to UCT 101 for 9 wkts in 19 overs (Junaid Khalid 55, Ahmad Hassan 15, Danish 11 not out; Anirudh 3/6, Shiv 3/29, Liam 2/19).
