Suraj shines in MIG victory

MUMBAI - MIG Mumbai registered a comprehensive innings victory over Dubai-based Maxway Institute for Cricket in the two-day match for the Lalchand Rajput-Maxtalent Bisleri Cup Under-16 Invitational Tournament at the Payades Sports Club in Kandivili on Monday.

Chasing a huge MIG first innings score of 330, Maxway were bowled out for 76 in their second innings.

Though the Dubai side made the same score in their first innings, they played out more overs – 38.4 – in the second innings.

Suraj Singh played a match-winning knock of 159 for MIG Mumbai

Having scored 330-6 in the first innings, MIG, a seasoned performer in Mumbai tournaments, cruised to an innings and 178-run victory over Maxway.

Opener Yash Shodan played a sensible knock, remaining not out on 39, with two hits to the fence.

He faced 129 balls and was at the crease for 128 balls. However, the other batsmen failed to survive sharp spells from MIG spinners.

Saeed Yasin also tried to play a defensive game, facing 46 balls, but Sarvesh Lokengaonkar eventually ended his resistance.

Prashant Bargude made the crucial breakthroughs for MIG, as the left-arm spinner took four wickets in his six-over spell. Vijay Gohil was also impressive, bagging three for nine runs off his miserly 10 overs, including five maidens.

Shardul Ponde also chipped in with two wickets, playing a handy role in MIG’s success.

Lokegaonkar picked up one wicket as the Maxway resistance ended when Omer Mohammed fell to Bargude, giving a catch to Aniket Chavan. MIG’s Suraj Singh was adjudged man-of-match for his match-winning knock of 159 from 137 balls in the first innings.

Singh hammered 27 fours and two sixers in his entertaining knock. For the Dubai team, Shodan put up a good all-round performance, while opener Omer Mohammed was impressive in the first innings.

Shodan, who scored 12 in the first innings, also picked up three wickets for 67 from his 13 overs.

Besides he played a good knock in the second innings as well. Omer made 49 in the first innings, with the help of five fours and three sixes.Jay Joshi, Zafaruddin Zafri and Luke Pimenta also bagged one wicket each in the first innings for Maxway.
