Sarwar takes seven to sink Tellicherry

ABU DHABI - Shoaib Sarwar took seven wickets to lead Emirates Cricket Board Blues to a winning start in the Al Hamad Contracting division one tournament.

The UAE international returned with excellent figures of seven for 45 from eight overs after stroking a run-a-ball 23 for his side to emerge winners by 131 runs over Nucaf Tellicherry in a truncated 40-over-a-side clash at the Zayed stadium.

ECB Blues sent into bat first made 225 for six with Chirag Suri being the top scorer with 66 not out.

He hit five fours and shared and featured in a couple of useful partnerships, adding 68 for the fourth wicket with Ahmed Raza (34) and a further 80 for the fifth wicket with Dan D’Souza (40).

Irfan Ansari was the other bowler to star over the weekend. He grabbed six for 51 from his 10 overs to lead Phoenix Medicine to a 48-run victory over Tyger.

Emirates Islamic Bank suffered their first defeat in four games when they went down to Ibsons Group, who were helped by a quick-fire century from their No.8 batsman Fayyaz Ahmed.

Ahmed’s 68-ball knock 110 was studded with 15 fours and a couple of sixes. Ibsons racked up 354 for nine and the bankers were restricted to 212 for eight with Kashif Ahmed, the one-drop batsman, carrying his bat until the end for a battling 104 not out.

Phoenix Medicine bt Tyger by 48 runs. Phoenix 270 for 9 in 50 overs (Tariq Shah 46, Fahad Ansari 35, Mohammed Rafiq 3-32, Zaheer Baig 2-46). Tyger 222 all out in 43.5 overs (Zaheer Baig 91, Mohammed Usman 53, Irfan Ansari 6-51).

Ibsons Group bt Emirates Islamic Bank by 142 runs. Ibsons 354 for 9 in 50 overs (Fayyaz Ahmed 110, Faizan Asif 60, Ayub Inayat 33, Kashif Ahmed 3-58, Naeem Khan 2-51). Emirates Islamic Bank 212 for 8 in 50 overs (Kashif Ahmed 104 not out, Abdul Gafoor 3-45, Fayyaz Ahmed 2-39).
