UAE had recently upset Afghanistan and were sitting pretty with two wins from as many matches.
Winning the toss, UAE opted to bat but lost wickets consistently before they were all out for 152 in 41 overs. The score would have been even worse but thanks to a late 46-run partnership for the eighth wicket by Salman Farooq and Shadeep Silva, UAE had some respectable total to defend.
Farooq made a patient 40 of 63 balls that included five boundaries while Silva supported him well with a steady 20.
Only Arshad Ali scored 21 in the top order as the others collapsed to a brilliant bowling attack from Malaysia. Sureh Navaratnam was the pick of the bowlers scalping four wickets in his 10 overs and conceding just 29 runs. Hassan Ghulam and Nik Arifin bagged three each.
In reply, Ahmad Faiz and skipper Suhan Kumar took control of the game after Malaysia lost their openers early. Faiz scored 43 that included four boundaries and one six, while Kumar made 65 of as many balls that was studded with six boundaries and one six.
Both shared a vital 67 runs for the third wicket that put Malaysia in firm control. But once both departed, Malaysia looked to invite trouble but Hassan Ghulam scored an unbeaten 20 to give Malaysia the deserving victory as they achieved the target in just 27.1 overs.
For UAE, Qasim Zubair picked up two wickets.
UAE still are on the top of the table with four points followed by Afghanistan with same points.
Brief scores: UAE: 152 all out in 41 overs (Arshad Ali 21, Salman Farooq 40, Shadeep Silva 20; Suresh Navaratnam 4/29, Hassan Ghulam 3/35, Nik Arfin 3/28) lost to Malaysia: 153 for 8 in 27.1 overs (Ahmad Faiz 43, Suhan Kumar 65, Hassan Ghulam 20 n.o; Qasim Zubair 2/36)
