The US president said that a ceasefire would be possible "tomorrow" if Hamas gave up Israeli hostages
Pawar, who met with visiting Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt on Thursday, said the ICC could not comment on the issue until Scotland Yard’s probe was completed, but the ICC would ‘take a strong stand if the allegations are established.’
The ICC has suspended Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir on anti-corruption charges. The players have said they will contest claims they were paid to deliberately throw no-balls in the fourth test against England at Lord’s last month. A fourth player, fast bowler Wahab Riaz, was interviewed by British police on Tuesday in London.
Ijaz Butt felt that since ‘the boys say they are innocent, we have to wait till they are proven guilty.’
But he said the PCB will not side with the players if they are found guilty.
Meanwhile, Butt and the PCB were accused of failing to maintain discipline within the team and lax communication with the Pakistan government’s representative in Britain.
Wajid Shamsul Hasan, the Pakistan High Commissioner to Britain, wrote a letter of complaint to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari, who is also patron of the PCB, the English-language daily Dawn reported in Islamabad on Thursday.
‘The PCB management has not guided the High Commission at any point,’ Hasan wrote in a two-page letter.
Hasan consulted with the three cricketers in London and handled media scrutiny, after British tabloid the News of the World revealed footage of an agent allegedly accepting money to organize the players to bowl deliberate no-balls at prearranged times to fix spot betting markets.
The high commissioner said PCB officials stayed away from the trouble ‘while the way forward was none other than a diplomatic solution, which worked and resolved the matter to a large extent.’
