Cricket education drive to be launched in Dubai schools

DUBAI — As part of the Princess Haya Initiative for the development of Health, Physical Education and School Sports, the Knowledge and Human Development Authority will launch a cricket education programme at Dubai’s government schools.

The programme is expected to be officially launched during the first term of the 2010/11 academic year and aims to teach basic cricket skills to students at government schools.

Max Talent Cricket Academy has been chosen to impart training in schools. Two schools have now incorporated in their syllabus curriculum cricket training schedule, which will see the eight-week programme conducted in two school premises in Dubai. The second phase will include 23 more schools inducted into the game after the coming summer break and commencement of the new academic year. This eight-week programme, will be followed by an Inter-National school event, to understand and gauge the interest and participation level. Phase 2 we will see five coaches on full time basis training these school children to get the desired results. The two participating schools are: Al Mahadi School (Mamzar-Deira Dubai) and Sultan School (Next to Al Shaab Sports Club, Deira Dubai)

The effort to get cricket into the local national schools has paid off due to pursuance by team Maxtalent and KHDA.

KHDA project manager Ahmed Abdul Rehman was instrumental in getting the project started. For Maxtalent, it is indeed a dream come true. “It as in our long term agenda, where in we want to take and introduce the game of cricket to maximum schools and children,” stated a Maxtalent official.
