Chippa knock sinks Maklai

DUBAI — Experienced campaigner Iqbal Chippa continued to dazzle in the EMA Lubricants-sponsored Mobil Cup tournament smashing a superb century in 63 balls to help Mashreq Bank beat Maklai CC by eight wickets, while Firoz Khan 90, and Hareesh Menon 76, led the victory charge for Nucaf Tellicherry in the tournament conducted by the Dubai Cricket Council and played at 7he Sevens cricket ground in Dubai.

Maklai, batting first, did well to notch up 190 runs riding on a good knock by Salim Patni who scored 86 runs in 62 balls with nine fours and a six. However, Mashreq Bank breezed past the target with more than four overs to spare as Chippa scored an exact 100 runs with twelve fours and a six before retiring hurt but ensuring an easy win for the bankers. Nucaf Tellicherry put up 212 runs on the board as Hareesh Menon and Firoz Khan added a 137-run partnership against G Force Academy youngsters. Hareesh scored 76 runs in 40 balls laced with 14 boundaries and a six while his partner Firoz pulverized the young attack with a rapid fire knock of 90 runs in 57 balls caning 19 boundaries and two sixes. G Force youngsters did well putting up a spirited fight, making 187 runs before being bowled out as Varun Totadri top scored with a fine knock of 51 runs in 40 balls with six fours.
