The World Twenty20 qualifier promised to be thriller.

In the end, the Afghans emerged victorious with a thumping 29-run win to maintain their unbeaten run in the tournament.

Afghanistan may not have been at their best, but they were still able to post a fighting total of 135.

Afghanistan won the toss and elected to bat on a bright sunny day at Dubai Sports Stadium. Afghanistan started cautiously but lost two early wickets.

They reached the 50-mark in the 10th over. Karim Sadiq and captain Nawroz Mangal started hitting boundaries from the 12th over.

Sadiq was dropped in 13th over by Orlando Baker at square leg boundary. Sadiq was again let off in the next over when Lennox Cush dropped a catch. But he failed to capitalise on that and he was stumped in the very next ball.

Mangal looked set for a big innings but was the victim of confusion and got himself run out.

Now Rais Ahmadzai joined Mohammed Nabi at the crease and both batsmen were ready to go after the bowling. Nabi hit some glorious shots to step up the run rate.

Afghanistan reached 100 in 17th over. US bowlers bowled a tight line and length and despite losing only four wickets Afghanistan failed to blossom in the final overs. They could manage only 135 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Nabi scored 25 and Rais made relatively quick 26. Both batsmen remained not out.

In reply, US started their chase in a subdued manner. They crawled to 20 in first six overs.

Openers Sushil Nadkarni and Carl Wright looked in a mood to carry the bat but Nadkarni was caught by Mangal off the bowling of Mirwais Ashraf after grinding 12 runs off 22 balls.

US reached 30 in eight overs and things looked bleak for the team. Now Cush joined Wright in the middle and the former tried to up the tempo by playing some risky shots.

US could gather only 40 runs in 10 overs and the rest of the match looked like a formality. US lost their second wicket in the form of Cush who scored seven runs.

US reached their 50 in 12th over. They lost their third wicket in the 13h over when Wright gave a simple catch to square leg fielder after scoring 28 off 38 balls.

Nabi again proved his credentials as an all-rounder and after getting 25 runs laced with two fours and the only six of the innings, he bowled brilliantly to restrict US.

Sudesh Dhaniram was the fourth wicket to go while trying to hit Nabi out of the ground.

The wickets kept falling in regular intervals and Hassan got his second wicket by dismissing Kevin Darlington in the 15th over.

Aditya Thyagarajan started with a six but it was too late for US. Thyagarajan was bowled by Hassan in the 9th over. Hassan once again bowled brilliantly and frustrated batsmen with his pace and accuracy. He grabbed 3/14 in four overs.

Rashard Marshall was the 7th wicket to go in the final over and US could make only 106.
