Health and hygiene measures at all public abattoirs in the Capital have been stepped up to cope with the huge number of animals to be slaughtered during the Eid Al Fitr holiday, authorities have announced.
The Abu Dhabi Municipality officials said the slaughter houses have been prepared well and are complying with the health standards under the supervision of a professional veterinary team.
And to limit the number of customers in butcheries under the current Covid-19 situation, residents can collect their meat from new drive-through centres after placing their orders online.
Customers can place their orders via two mobile apps, My Slaughter and Al Jazeera Slaughters.
The civic body said precautionary measures, including physical distancing, wearing of masks and thermal screening have been implemented at the abattoirs to keep customers and workers safe.
The abattoir facilities and public areas are also being sterilised on a daily basis as a precautionary measure to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Dr Saeed Qarawash Al Rumaithi, director of the Public Health Department at the municipality, said during the Eid holiday, the slaughter houses will receive customers from 7am until 6pm throughout the week. From 5.30pm, the billing window will be closed to allow maintenance and cleaning operations for slaughterhouses under the supervision of veterinarians.
According to authorities, more than 41,176 animals including sheep, cows, goats and camels have been slaughtered at the municipal abattoirs since the beginning of Ramadan.
Authorities have urged people to take all their animals to public abattoirs and warned that those who are caught slaughtering animals outside the abattoirs or in their homes would face legal action.
