Travel and tourism sector will be employing 928,000 people by 2034, with 1 in 9 residents working in the sector
The UAE has shown a high level of resilience in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and that is evident in the consistent drop in the number of active cases and steady recoveries the country has recorded in the past one week.
Unprecedented levels of daily testing being conducted across the country have helped the UAE authorities bring down its positive Covid cases to below 4,000 for the first time in almost six months. The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Wednesday reported 1,400 new Covid cases and also announced 2,189 recoveries, bringing the total number of active cases to 3,892.
As many as 104,673 new Covid-19 tests were carried out on Wednesday, taking the total to over 12.7 million tests so far.
Doctors have lauded the country’s scientific approach, government agility in taking proactive steps to contain the virus, meticulous planning and concerted efforts by frontliners that they said has helped turn the tables over the crisis.
Armed with experience and expertise, doctors said they are now better prepared to deal with the virus. Doctors have also said the severity of the infection seemed to have gone down compared to the initial phase when the virus struck.
Dr Adel Al Sisi, CMO and intensive care consultant with Prime Hospital, said that complications have also gone down because hospitals are now better equipped to handle Covid cases. “ The number of cases admitted in hospitals and critical care have gone down considerably. Most of the people who tested positive are practising home isolation and do not require hospitalisation, which is a good sign.”
