The one powerful flank in the battle against Covid-19 is the maintenance of your morale. In the army, they say morale is half the battle won. To be honest, the sea change in lifestyle overnight has been absorbed by the majority of the human race with great resilience. That is a remarkable achievement.

But now it is the long haul, and we have to keep up the stamina and the positive outlook if we have to overcome this extreme adversity.

In doing so we are not only helping the authorities do their job, but we are also being good foot soldiers because each one of us is conscripted into this public army.

Pace yourself and create segments in your day. An agenda, a schedule, there is nothing more exhausting than an empty day.

Don't let the doomsayers steal your ears and depress you. There are enough of those and you have enough sense to figure out what's best for you.

If you are with family, become the buffer and defuse situations at home between members. Remember, save that energy. We tend to ignore bachelors, but being more lonely than alone, they can more easily fall victim to the blues.

Take heart in the fact that everyone is truly in it together. We all have the same fears. When will it end? What will be the new normal? Does the ringing of the phone mean my job has gone? How will we manage? We are running out of money and behind on payments.

We are all in the same boat. So find comfort in numbers and keep the faith. Yes, there will be times when surrender seems so sweet. You want to throw up your hands in despair, the claustrophobia gnawing at you, the confinement unbearable, everyone driving you crazy. Fight it. Your biggest weapon is calm. Control emotions. Literally, do not get provoked. Walk away from pointless arguments because you owe it to yourself to maintain your sanity.

Suffice it to say we do not know how it will end, but we cannot afford to raise a white flag against this enemy. We must persevere and win the day. There are people on the frontline fighting for us, and so must we... fight for ourselves to send out the message...we shall overcome.
