The UAE recently achieved a world record for the largest stationery collection gathered within 24 hours for charity. Hosted at Al Diyafah High School in Qusais, over 25 educational institutions, 55 corporates and other enthusiastic groups and individuals across the UAE participated in the drive.
Initiated by K Venkatraman, popularly known as the 'Pencilman of the UAE', the challenge garnered notebooks, pens, pencils, crayons, school bags, sheets of paper, etc. between 6pm on October 13 to 5pm on October 14.
The final results were 10,975 kg of stationery, which beat the former record of 4,571 kg in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The event was organised by the Centre of Responsible Business and ENGAGE, Dubai, which are part of the Dubai Chamber, with the support of the Emirates Red Crescent. FOI Events LLC managed the process of registration, initial and final weighing, sorting stationery, repacking, and handover to Emirates Red Crescent.
MCA Auditing stood as a witness for the event and verified the accuracy of the process, while Jayasen Consultants provided the Consultancy for the event. According to Emirates Red Crescent, the collected goods will be distributed among refugee children around the world.
