ACTOR UPEN Patel admits he's always been unlucky in love. While his cosy love affair with screen siren Amrita Arora went kaput, his alleged link-up with model Shamita Singha has grabbed sufficient newsprint in the recent past.

Though the handsome hunk has repeatedly denied his much-speculated relationship with the model, the grapevine is now abuzz with rumours of Upen proposing marriage to Shamita.

"Upen and Shamita have been seeing each other for quite sometime now, but their relationship was on the rocks a while back. Now things are absolutely stable and they are very much together. Though I don't think he has popped the question yet," shares a source close to the couple. Though the man in question insists he's "very much single", lady love Shamita recently admitted she's "very much in a steady relationship with Upen".

Incidentally, Upen has also been maintaining a fairly low-profile these days. Does that have anything to do with the recent speculation over his personal life?

"No not at all. I don't believe in aimless interviews. Also, life has been extremely hectic lately. I've had back-to-back shootings and endorsement campaigns. I'm currently working on Kumar Mangat's One, Two, Three opposite Tanisha, Ganesh Acharya's Money Hai Toh Honey Hai with Govinda and I've also been offered Sunil Shetty's Loot. Then I've signed a plum deal with Ashtavinayak Films and I'm doing a Neeraj Vora comedy under the same banner. I'm also doing Abbas Mustan's next and Suneel Darshan's next. My dates are blocked till July next year," says Upen.

So, does this mean there's no time for love? Well, Upen doesn't bite the line and open up about girlfriend Shamita. He neatly sidesteps that issue altogether, as he admits he's always been given a raw deal by the one he's loved.

"Love is one of the most painful things on Earth. I've often confused something not-so-serious with someone for real love. The person I'm in love with means the world to me. I can bend backwards for that person. In love, it's hard to control emotions. But, there has to be mutual love and respect. I can safely say that I've always loved more than been loved and that's what has always made me the weaker person in love. It's unfortunate but I've always been unlucky in love. And let's not forget there's a very fine line between love and hate," confesses Upen.
