IT HAS been tough for Tanishaa Mukherjee to handle those constant comparisons with her superstar sis Kajol, but the vibrant 20-something insists that after four years in the film industry and a couple of critically acclaimed acts later (the last one was Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar), she’s being recognised as a serious professional. In fact she’s just wrapped up Sarkar Raj, the sequel to Sarkar and tickles your funny bones in Ashwini Dheer’s directorial debut One Two Three. Predictably, the mood’s upbeat.
She says, “While Abhishek (Bachchan) and Ram Gopal Verma have made me feel comfortable always, this time around I was feeling at home with the entire crew of Sarkar because I had worked with them earlier.”
That admiration for the Big B -Amitabh Bachchan is evident when she points out “how professional he has been in not leaving his place before a shot is ‘okayed.” Hailing from such an illustrious family, does she have any inspirations?”My grandmother (Shobhna Samarth) is my greatest inspiration. I have seen the way she has lived her life. She has been one of the first female producers. She was a fabulous actress, had amazing grace and oomph. I have always looked up to her and want to be a strong person like her.”
Ironically, Tanishaa had once even dreamt of becoming a nun (something that might have been because she went to a convent school)
Tanishaa explains, “That was just a phase of my life. I had become very religious. But even as a child I was always fascinated with make-up and wanted to be part of the glitz and glamour that Bollywood movies were associated with. In fact, I took my first step towards acting when I had enrolled for a play with a renowned theatre personality. I loved being the orator in school plays.”
Of late, we’ve spotted her at many fund-raising events for underprivileged children organised by leading NGOs. How important is social work in her life? She says, “Children are the purest form of life. In order to make the world a beautiful place for them to live in, we have do pitch in the best possible way. I’d like to be more involved in their welfare. Some day I’ll do something more concrete for them.”
A family person by her own admission, Tanishaa loves “to spend time with my family whenever I get the chance,” says this witty mass communication graduate. “That apart I love to travel and try to watch plays.”
So what’s the secret behind her hour-glass figure? “Three days of cardio exercises and three days of weight training. I believe that if you have to lose weight, you should eat well,” she offers. And if you were to describe her in a sentence, Tanishaa feels she should be known as someone who believes in “enjoying every moment of my life, and finding happiness in whatever I do.”
