Former Guns N' Roses lead guitarist Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal has promised to teach Dubai's guitar players techniques that 'go beyond the limits of the fretboard' at his workshop that's taking place on October 19 at Lucky Voice, Grand Millenium Hotel, Barsha.
"I'll show (guitarists) a different way to see the string and play from both directions, techniques that go beyond the limits of the fretboard. They will also learn how to match sounds to emotions and use them to shape their music, ways to always hit the right notes and make beautiful melodies for songwriting, soloing and improvising," said Bumblefoot, who will also perform live at the venue on Sunday, October 20.
Bumblefoot's appearance in the city is part of the SoulSpark Dubai event, a 4-day leadership and mindfulness summit. The guitar clinic will also feature a session by versatile Dubai-based rock guitarist Royden Mascarenhas. Rock fans will also get a chance to get themselves snapped with Bumblefoot during the event.
Giving further details about his guitar workshop, Bumblefoot said, "I build each topic, starting from the basics and go right up to the advanced stage, so that players of any level can get something out of it. It will be a comfortable, casual, down-to-earth interactive session. It (the workdhop) will feel like a big guitar player hangout."
Bumblefoot has played with some of the world's top rock outfits. He is the lead singer and guitarist of the progressive rock band Asia, guitarist of the rock band Sons Of Apollo, former lead guitarist of rock groups Art Of Anarchy and Guns N' Roses. He is famous for his fretless guitar riffs which can be heard in the Gun N' Roses album, Chinese Democracy.
The guitarist is also an accomplished composer and has scored the theme song to VH1's That Metal Show. His recordings can also be heard in TV shows Hogan Knows Best, The Real World, Made and The Osbournes. He has appeared in movies and portrayed Thunder in The Meat Puppet, played Mitch Casell in The Gravedigger and portrayed Jack Hayes in the thriller The Evangelist.
The concert on Sunday, October 20 will kick off with an acoustic set by the duo JM & Laura, followed by a one-hour set by the local band Skeptic. Veteran Dubai rockers Point Of View will take to the stage at 10:30pm before Bumblefoot takes over with a set list that's expected to feature the guitar virtuoso's original songs as well as songs from his other projects like Sons Of Apollo, Art Of Anarchy, Asia and of course some signature tunes from Guns N' Roses.
Bumblefoot has also agreed to jam with local musicians at the end of his session. Guitar players wanting to perform with the maestro should register in advance at rocknationuae@yahoo.com.
