when the Public Prosecution appealed against the lower court's verdict and sought a more stringent punishment.

According to the case history, Anil, who works as a manager in a private company, was caught by the police on September 18 for reckless driving and drinking in public. An inebriated Anil could not control the car, resulting in his crashing into the barrier separating the dual carriage way and colliding with a signboard.

Police also found that he had violated traffic laws by not renewing the registration of his car even five months after its validity had expired.
