The Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies (EIBFS) has launched a first-of-its-kind simulated trading room in the UAE to provide first-hand knowledge of the stock market to students and help them become qualified traders.
The state-of-the-art room is equipped with interactive monitors and a trading ticker with real-time market feed from the Dubai Financial Market. The facility features 14 dual-monitor setups for trainees to carry out mock trading.
Through the trading room, the institute will provide cutting-edge and technology-enabled experiential learning, which empowers students to learn trading and portfolio-building skills involving all asset classes, including fixed income, equities, commodities and forex in a real environment with emphasis on technical analysis and trading psychology.
Jamal Al Jassmi, general manager of the EIBFS, said the trading room is built to offer EIBFS students a real-world trading experience through specially-designed financial markets trading courses.
"It not only broadens students' knowledge of financial services but also promotes awareness of the global financial markets and increases employability of EIBFS graduates by providing a competitive edge in the domestic and international job market," he said.
The facility will help trainees understand the inner workings of trading, as this is a precursor to a career in stock market trading. The trading room will serve as a capacity building point for those looking to gain insights into trading. It will equip students with sound knowledge of trading and help them become qualified traders.
"Intertwining practical training of trading portfolio-building with the theoretical knowledge will strengthen finance and banking students' capabilities," Al Jassmi said.
The EIBFS has also partnered with specialist training and technology solution providers in the US, Europe and the UK. It has also been at the forefront of advanced financial education and capacity-building.
Rajat Kush, an expert in the financial sector, said the simulated trading room will not only equip trainees with the best trading knowledge but also provide a near-real experience of trading.
"The trainees will learn essentials of trading and know how to apply them in real-life trading situations. Being connected to the Dubai Financial Market allows the trainees to get a first-hand knowledge of the stock market and it is a great way to hone skills in this sector," Kush said.
Dhiren Mahendrabhai Mehta, a participant from United Arab Bank, said the EIBFS offers many courses that help banking professionals and aspirants in gaining the required knowledge for growth in the finance industry.
"I am excited about this new offering from the EIBFS; a well-equipped trading room with a live feed from the Dubai Financial Market is helpful for all trainees. Through this latest offering, the EIBFS will help students in understanding the intricacies of the forex/equity/commodities market and will assist them in making sound trading decisions," he said.
The EIBFS, which was founded in 1983, has three campuses for education and training services, located in Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The Institute has made substantial contributions to the careers of thousands of students and working professionals in the financial services sector. It is also a strong supporter of emiratisation and has launched various initiatives that have greatly helped promote the careers of Emiratis.
