The Telecoms World Middle East 2015, or TWME, conference on Monday welcomed a broad range of attendees, including retail and wholesale telecoms, OTT players, data centres and solution providers.
Held in Dubai, the 11th annual Telecoms World Middle East remains the only telecoms event in the Middle East attended by a 100 per cent of the Middle East's operators and carriers. This year, over 700 firms attended the conference.
Ali Amiri, executive vice-president of etisalat's carrier and wholesale services, highlighted the growth in Long-Term Evolution, commonly marketed as 4G LTE, and the industry challenges. He said the UAE has exceptionally high growth in terms of Internet usage; with high bandwidth applications, and in particular social networking, video and businesses driving consumption.
Amiri forecast that the trend will grow further with new innovations such as cloud computing.
Andy Huckridge, director of service provider solutions at Gigamon, said as the networking landscape evolves with technologies such as virtualisation, cloud computing, mobility and big data, service providers are looking to traffic visibility as an essential component in managing, analysing and securing their networks.
"Gigamon provides an intelligent Visibility Fabric architecture, which empowers infrastructure architects, managers and operators with pervasive traffic intelligence and manageability of their infrastructure, helping to lower operational cost and leading to reduced risk and far fewer outages," Huckridge said.
Gurpreet Jajj, chief operating officer at ODS2, said: "Telecoms World Middle East 2015 is an excellent platform to showcase our technology solutions for the telecom industry. It's a great opportunity to utilise this forum to introduce our advanced web and mobile software applications to major telecoms in the region and show them how they can reap benefit from these technologies."
