He was speaking at a dinner hosted by the Executive Committee which is organising the ‘Palestine Development and Investment Conference’ (PDIC) set to be held in April and September 2006 in Palestine, under the patronage of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
The dinner engagement was attended by leading Arab businessmen, as well as Dr. Khairi Al Oraydi, the Palestinian Ambassador in the UAE, Ambassador Salim Abu Sultan, Palestinian Consul General in Dubai, Dr. Jawad Naji, Under Secretary of the Palestinian Ministry of National Economy and Jaafar Hudab, Director General of Palestine Investment Promotion Agency.
The event was held in line with the continuing efforts to encourage support among businesses, investors and politicians in the upcoming conferences.
Sinokrot added that the recently held Palestinian elections had reflected the democratic face of the population in the Palestinian territories. “The freedom and transparency of the elections has proved that democracy is the path to shift to a new phase of development and rebuilding our independent state.”
Sinokrot added that the democratic environment that prevailed during the elections, was a positive element contributing to the political and economic stability in the Palestinian territories. “The smooth conduct of the elections will be of great benefit to attracting investments, aid and economic resources to enhance the growth of the Palestinian economy.”
Following several meetings between the government and the private sector in Palestine, the Executive Committee for the PDIC has decided to hold a conference in Palestine in April 2006 and a second conference in September 2006.
Sinokrot also noted: “A number of meetings with Palestinian private sector institutions and the Executive Committee resulted in two conferences in order to relay a powerful message to the world that the Palestinian economy and the Palestinian private sector is committed to working for the welfare of our economy.”
He also highlighted that several parties will be invited to participate in the conference including Arab and Western nations.
The conference would be conducted at a national level and will be followed by a regional and international conference in September this year.
“Countering corruption, focusing on reform, transparency, national unity, and dove-tailing economic policies to create a challenging environment for the private sector are amongst the focal points for Palestinians,” he said.
