Medical College to come up in RAK

RAS Al KHAIMAH — The Government of Ras Al Khaimah yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an Indian health care group for the establishment of a world class medical college in Ras Al Khaimah at a cost of Dh 100 million.

The medical college, to be set up by the Bangalore based Sagar Group, will offer courses in medicine and would award MBBS degrees which will be validated by the UAE authorities. The college will have a student intake of 100 students per batch. The MoU was signed by Dr. Khater Massaad, Advisor to the RAK Crown Prince and CEO of the RAK Investment Authority, and Dr. D Premachandra Sagar, Vice Chairman of the Sagar Group, on the sidelines of the global investors' conference organised in RAK.

The college of Medicine is expected to start functioning by September 2006. It will offer the MBBS programme in the first phase, to be followed by lateral programmes in dentistry and nursing after six months.
