The film seems a sequel to the Tamil film 'Enthiran', although director Shankar has denied it. In the movie, Rajinikanth plays Dr Vaseegaran, a scientist who brings back (to life) the dismantled bad robot Chitti to save the world from 'unknown forces'. The film begins with a baby dying as soon as it is born. In the hospital, the dead baby is visited by a bird who brings it back to life. The baby is Akshay Kumar, who later in the movie, transforms into Pakshi Raja (Bird King). No wonder this baby has a liking for birds in general, so much so, that when he grows to be 80, he has sheltered a massive number of birds.
One day, Akshay notices birds dying rapidly due to radiation from a mobile tower in the vicinity. This makes him develop a hatred for mobile phones and towers. Sounds too hypothetical to be true, doesn't it? Soon, the old man commits suicide by hanging himself from a mobile tower following the death of his beloved birds. Thus begins the wrath on people using mobiles phones. People find their cell phones flying out of their hands as panic starts engulfing the city. Dr. Vaseegaran is called in to find out the cause of the problem. That's when a mammoth bird, with mobiles clinging all over its body, attacks the city. Even the army fails to terminate the giant bird and the need of the hour becomes Chitti.
It is only post the interval that the bird's face (Akshay Kumar) starts to appear. Dr. Vaseegaran along with Chitti 2.0 version, both played by Rajinikanth, and Nila (Amy Jackson) who is Dr. Vaseegaran's secretary and a friendly humanoid robot, initiates the attack on Pakshi Raja.
By now, the movie is in so much mess that director Shankar does not know how to end it. So, he gets Pakshi Raja to give up and disappear into the sky.
The only saving grace in 2.0 is the VFX, but that too is wasted on account of a shabby story.
Screenplay
There is nothing like screenplay in 2.0. Director Shankar seems to be having only one thing in mind - using technology to turn a poor film into a supe rhit. In comparison, Baahubali exhibited superb use of technology with substance. It had a story to tell. Here in 2.0, overly dramatic incidents form the story, turning it into a disaster. In fact, in one of the scenes there is a doubt that extraterrestrial beings are stealing peoples mobiles for its technology. Hilarious!
Dialogues
Worse dialogues. In fact, nil dialogues.
Acting
When there are just three robots fighting it out, there is no acting!
Music
Again, zero music.
Direction
Director Shankar has shown how lousy a film's direction can be. Seems like he had someone ready to spend a whopping Rs600 crore on a film so he went ahead and made 2.0. When films like Ra One and Krrish have been made with less than half the amount spent on 2.0, it is a disgrace to see that kind of money put down the drain.
Verdict
It is a sheer waste of time, energy and money. The film is capable of causing mental trauma for viewers. The audience will be left baffled as to why they are watching the movie at all!
2.0 is the worst film I have watched till date mainly because of the amount of money spent on making it seems to have been wasted in the worst possible way. Two parts of Baahubali apparently cost Rs 500 crore to make and here, 2.0 cost Rs600 crore.
