EIAST is showcasing a model of DubaiSat-1, the UAE’s first remote sensing satellite, at stand E360 at the Dubai Airshow 2009. EIAST is also displaying, for the first time in public, the most recent images
despatched by the satellite.
The model of DubaiSat-1 will provide visitors an in-depth insight into the working and functions of the satellite, while the images will offer a glimpse of the potential applications they have in sectors as varied as urban development, scientific research, transportation, civil engineering, construction, mapping and GIS.
Al Mansoori said: “EIAST seeks to promote the UAE’s noticeable progress in the field of space industries during its participation at the Airshow. DubaiSat-1 is one of EIAST’s main showcases at the event, which will serve as an ideal platform to discuss a series of future agreements in the fields of air and
space industries.”
With the seamless launch of DubaiSat-1 end of July, the UAE has underscored its leading position in space research and execution. By displaying the model at the Dubai Airshow, one of the premier events that brings in global businesses and visitors, EIAST is highlighting the nation’s scientific and research capabilities.
“The UAE engineers are in the process of finalising the design phase of DubaiSat-2 and soon the manufacturing process will begin. We are keen that our next projects are executed fully by Emiratis in line with our strategy to provide a suitable environment for attracting nationals and thus build a new generation capable of technical development and scientific research,” added Al Mansoori.
DubaiSat-1 is now in an optimal position in orbit around the earth and sending regular images to the EIAST Ground Control Station in Dubai. DubaiSat-1 was launched into space from the launch pad/base in Baikonour in Kazakhstan under the supervision of UAE engineers and scientists, who are responsible for more than a third of the project’s implementation. The launch of DubaiSat-1 consisted of two segments: space and ground. The space segment comprises the development, design and manufacture of satellite equipment and components of the measurement and imaging. The groundsegment includes the mission control station, image receiving and processing station, antenna and RF subsystem.
