Dubai - The public sector in the country has recorded a 30 per cent rise in the representation of women in boards of directors, according to Shaikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Women Establishment (DWE), wife of Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
Shaikha Manal referred to the ‘Women in Boards’ initiative, which led to a 30 per cent increase in the representation of women in boards of directors in the public sector, during the first meeting of the new board of directors of the DWE.
While lauding the hard work of the new team of DWE, she stressed the role of the establishment in achieving its goals and providing a suitable environment that allows women to excel in the workplace. She also mentioned about establishing a gender equality council and Dubai being chosen to host the Women’s Forum next year, considering it as the biggest international event taking place for the women in the Middle East and North Africa.
Mona Ghanem Al Marri, chairperson of the board of directors and managing director of DWE, highlighted the milestones achieved by the establishment led by Shaikha Manal, and the efforts of the establishment to open channels of communication on local, regional and international levels.
Al Marri talked about programmes executed by the establishment, such as the national nursery project that serves more than 500 working mothers. - reporters@khaleejtimes.com
