If you are not a fan of the greens (like me) don’t let the name of the restaurant put you off. Saladicious has much more on offer than just the leaves (of course, that’s the heart). You enter and you get those “straight out of your mamma’s kitchen” smells and flavours. The Saladicious deli at JBR not only offers gourmet and organic food, but its hip interiors are punctuated with posters from Friends and Seinfeld. There’s even a couch to chill out on!

The deli boasts of products from Europe and Latin America. Strawberries, plums, cherry tomatoes and eggplants from Brazil, Italy, and France are all there for you to pick from. Avocado comes all the way from Mexico. Edible flowers are also on display to buy — just to add to that wow factor at your dinner party, if you please.

There are hot and cold beverages to suit your mood and what time of the day you need that sip. The Tropical Blue, fresh pineapple juice with blue curacao and topped with lemon soda is sweet, with a tinge of sour. That’s a refreshing start to a healthy gastronomic journey.

Leaving the greens aside, I opted for a sandwich. The Chicken Teri Teri, oregano and parmesan bread with Emmental cheese, teriyaki chicken and sliced black olives and tomatoes with corn sauce was large enough to feed two hungry mouths.

If you are not satisfied with the number of salads on offer (and there are quite a few), including chicken Caesar salad, Greek, Nicoise or Sashimi salad, you also have the ‘DIY Salads’ for those of you who like to take the reins when it comes to your rocket.

If you possess a sweet tooth then just try the desserts, including the sublime Nutella Pie. Or, for those that like breakfast at dinner time, get inside for an all-day breakfast menu of pancakes and waffles and those lovely Eggs Benedict to satisfy your morning craving at any time of the day.

If you are a fan of homegrown food, there’s good news for you. Soon there will be organic vegetables grown by Saladicious’ own fair hands. These veggies can be bought at the deli — weighed, wrapped and ready to take home, so that you can create healthy gourmet wonders in your own kitchen.

A relaxed ambience with food your yoga instructor would be proud of, Saladicious is one place to go to in Dubai for colourful greens.

What we didn’t like: Despite there being plenty of choice, we missed the bread basket

Restaurant best for: Freshly home-made salads and sandwiches, and Nutella Pie

Cost for one: Dh100-150

Did you know: Salads are served before the mains but, in Europe, they may be served after!
