Video of an ageing terminally ill man who got to see his newborn great-granddaughter for the first time will leave you teary-eyed.
Admitted at a hospital in Voorhees Township, New Jersey, Charles Marshall, 78, broke into tears when he saw his great-granddaughter, Chole, brought to him in an incubator. He passed away two weeks later on 18 June.
Marshall was being treated for terminal pancreatic cancer on the seventh floor of the Virtua Voorhees Hospital in early June. While his granddaughter, Joy Caitlyn Phero, was preparing to give birth on the third floor of the same hospital.
Phero shared on Facebook the video of her beloved 'Pop Pop' meeting her daughter and thanked the hospital staff for helping to arrange the special visit. She wrote in the post about her fear that Marshall, whom she refers to as 'pop pop', would not live long enough to meet his great-granddaughter born on 1 June. "In his words, his life is now complete just because of this moment," she wrote in the post.
In an email to Global News, Phero said she asked the hospital if they could arrange for Marshall to see Chole and two days later, her wish was granted. In the video, Phero is seen being brought in a wheelchair into Marshall's room where they hug and begin to cry.
Then Marshall's great-granddaughter is also wheeled in an incubator. "Honestly it was one of the best moments of my life, all throughout my pregnancy I was so scared he wouldn't be able to meet her and he held on long enough to do so, which meant the world to me. He told me his life was now complete because of him meeting her. This moment meant the world to both of us. I will always keep this moment so close to my heart," Phero told Global News.
The emotional video has amassed nearly 80,000 views online.
