US Consulate Closure Exaggerated: Khalfan

DUBAI - Lt.-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, described the US Consulate’s decision to close for one day due to security reasons as an “exaggerated reaction’.

“A man called the police from a public phone and lodged a complaint against an unnamed Arab man. The plaintiff was later arrested for wreaking a malicious personal vendetta against that man,” Dhahi Khalfan said.

He added that the police informed the Consulate, “who alerted the Press, despite the fact that they knew the truth.

“Apparently, the Consulate officials were not convinced about the details we offered to them. They opted to take the first part of the story and to ignore the other part that the whole matter was caused by a malicious personal vendetta,” he added.
