Two Filipinas were killed in a traffic accident on the Etihad road in Umm Al Quwain. The duo was travelling along with three others of different nationalities in a minibus when the driver lost control over the steering wheel, after which it crashed into the road divider and flipped over several times, a police official said.
"A third woman received minor injuries in the accident which occurred late on Sunday on the Etihad road in the direction of Ras Al Khaimah."
After being alerted of the mishap, the police dispatched traffic patrols and paramedics to the site. Initial enactment of the accident indicated that it occurred as a result of sudden swerving.
The deceased were aged 38 and 29, the police added.
Lt-Col Saeed Obaid bin Aran, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of the UAQ Police Directorate General, told Khaleej Times that inattentive driving, failure to leave enough space between vehicles and failure to abide by lane discipline are some of the main reasons of accidents in the emirate.
