The 27-year-old Nepali worker allegedly tried to steal the iron rods from the building site in Rafaa area where he worked as a guard on July 4 this year. The Pakistani, aged 28, is accused of planning and helping in the execution of the crime.
A police officer testified that around 8.45am on the day of the incident, he was patrolling a street behind Ramee Hotel. "I saw a pick-up parked near a building under construction. Two men were taking iron rods from the site and loading them on to the pick-up. They got nervous when I approached them and asked them where they were taking the load to. They tried to evade the question but eventually the Nepali guard admitted that they were stealing the material to sell them and split the money."
