Police say 16 people have been killed in a collision between a truck and an overcrowded motorized rickshaw in southern India.
Police officer A. Ramulu says those killed were in the rickshaw and on their way to a temple in Adilabad district of Telangana state on Saturday night.
Another three people were hospitalised for treatment. The dead included eight members of a family.
Road accidents are common in India, due mainly to reckless driving, vehicle overcrowding, badly maintained roads and aged vehicles. About 240,000 people die on the road every year.
